Cosmetic gum surgery or Gum re-shaping is relatively simple and can greatly improve the appearance of your smile and self-confidence. This procedure is practically painless and self cauterizing (Laser), minimizing risk of exposure and infection complications. It is mainly the only solution for:
• Gummy Smile (Small Crown Length): is a condition in which the gums cover too much of the teeth, usually the front teeth leaving the length of the teeth looking too short.
• Gum recession (Long Teeth): is caused by receding gums or a bad bite. This can leave your teeth overexposed at the gum line.
• Uneven gum line due to “short teeth”.
• Gum loss or gums which appear to be collapsing (from missing teeth), black areas between bridges, implants, crowns or teeth, or tooth sensitivity from receding gums.
The procedure is done under local anesthetic using either a laser instrument or scalpel to reduce excess gum covering the neck region of your tooth making it longer (Gummy Smile). For patients with Long teeth, a small graft or tissue is taken from the palate on the roof of your mouth and attaching them to the gum area with suture reinforcing thin gums or fills in areas where your gums have receded. This allows normal sized teeth and a reshaped gum line. Healing process is relatively quick with very little discomfort. Your dentist typically prescribes an antibacterial mouth rinse to be used two to three times a day for a two week period post surgery.
